Two LCC Instructors to Run in Marine Corps Marathon

Lamar Community Col-
lege instructors Adrianna
Tucker and Elizabeth
Whitham will fulfill a
year-long goal on October
31 when they run in the
Marine Corps Marathon
in Washington, D.C. The
26.2 mile jog starts near
the Pentagon and com-
pletes at the Iwo Jima
Memorial. This is the 35th
annual Marine Corps
Marathon; coincidentally,
Whitham began running
approximately 35 years
ago. Since the women
have started training,
many local community
aged them to keep going.
One particularly encour-
aging person suggested
that they dedicate their
run to the LCC Founda-
tion in an effort to in-
crease awareness of the
foundation's efforts and
raise additional funds.
The ladies liked the idea.
"Our Foundation serves
our students and college
well, but it is always in
need of additional funds
to expand its effective-
ness," commented
Whitham. "Pledges from
friends and neighbors will

When asked how the
two selected the Marine
Marathon for their run,
Tucker, an Ag faculty
member, explained, "We
both have a profound re-
spect for men and women
who serve in the military
and their families. We are
also running to honor
them." Whitham, a Busi-
ness faculty member, was
an 'Army brat' for most of
her childhood. Her family
lived in various locations
along the Eastern Sea-
board as her father
served many years in the
Army.

garding the run can be
